The meeting focused on prospects for expanding investment and industrial and technological cooperation, as well as implementing new large-scale projects in Kazakhstan. Representatives of Hyundai Engineering and Kia, both part of Hyundai Motor Group, also took part in the discussion on the Korean side.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted Hyundai Motor Group’s significant contribution to the development of Kazakhstan’s automotive industry and emphasized the importance of further deepening localization, expanding the production of automotive components and increasing the sector’s export potential, particularly through the existing Hyundai plant in Almaty and Kia plant in Kostanay.
In this context, the President outlined the strategic objective of transforming Kazakhstan into a major regional hub for the production and export of vehicles, with a focus on developing full-cycle manufacturing.
According to the Head of State, another important area of partnership could be electric mobility, including the production of electric vehicles and components, as well as the development of charging infrastructure.
In turn, Sung Kim thanked Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for his continued attention to and support for Hyundai and Kia projects. He noted that Kazakhstan is not merely a market for the company, but an important regional hub for its operations across the CIS. The Hyundai Motor Group executive confirmed the company’s intention to further expand its presence and deepen production localization in Kazakhstan.
Hyundai Engineering expressed readiness to develop cooperation in the oil and gas sector, industry and infrastructure. Meanwhile, Kia’s management expressed its intention to jointly develop a national automotive brand of Kazakhstan.
Following the meeting, agreements were exchanged between QazaqGaz and Hyundai Engineering on the construction of a gas processing plant in Western Kazakhstan, as well as between Hyundai Motor Company and Astana Motors on the production of a new Hyundai Tucson model.
